Origins of Alpha -‘It’s friends bringing friends’

Alpha originated in a London church over 20 years ago.

In 1993, Nicky Gumbel, (now the lead spokesperson for Alpha International)
discovered people were struggling with real questions of faith and other religious traditions. He realized how this simple course in basic Christianity could bring people together to talk about their beliefs (or non-beliefs) without being judged.

Through DVD talks, Nicky (or sometimes a live talk via someone else) proposes life’s questions, to which the small group leaders facilitate discussion.

In Alpha, no questions are treated as too trivial, threatening or illogical. Every
question is addressed courteously and thoughtfully - and no one is ever ‘pestered’ if they choose not to continue with the course.

Nicky Gumbel explains: ‘It’s all friendship-based. There’s no knocking on doors, there’s little advertising, but it’s friends bringing friends.’

Please call the RCC office to RSVP for the Banquet and/or register for the course. 528-8463.

Alpha is an adult oriented course and there is no childcare available.
