Sarah Garguilo, Director of Adult Ministries

It wasn’t by chance that I ended up at RCC, but it certainly was unexpected.

My story begins as a child in Northern California, but quickly moves to Europe where my parents spent the bulk of my formative years as missionaries with Youth With a Mission. My childhood was in no way “normal,” but certainly shaped the restless and adventuresome person that I am today. I celebrated my eighth birthday with a boat ride in Amsterdam, taught Romanian refugees how to play baseball in Austria, and visited every museum in London. Twice.

In 1996 I headed off to Seattle Pacific University to study theatre and otherwise become a smarter person. I soon realized that there were not a lot of lucrative careers to be had in theatre (already getting smarter!), so I switched my major to English. Because, as everyone knows, there are a lot of lucrative careers in writing. It’s possible that I did not quite think the whole thing through.

So I found myself back in Sonoma County after many years away and inevitably ended up in the wine industry where I held a number of positions from Communications Specialist to Marketing Manager. All the while I knew that God had other plans for me and felt a desperate need to seek him with my whole life. I came to RCC, initially, because of the young adult ministries offered here, in particular the Ignite group. A year passed and I felt God calling me more and more into full time ministry. When a position here came my way, I could clearly see how God had lead me to this point, and I leapt excitedly into the next phase of my journey with him! I live every day with wide-eyed anticipation of what he has next for me to discover.

Other points of interest: I love travel writing – in fact I love all things travel related. Making a trip across town to visit Target is a thrill for me. Australia is next on my list. I speak fluent German, or at least I used to. Please don’t ask me to try; it can lead to long, uncomfortable silences. I published my first article when I was twelve years old. It was an expose on God’s view of dogs throughout the Bible in Focus on the Family’s Clubhouse Magazine. Perhaps you’ve read it. Mostly, I love to talk about God’s amazing acts of Grace in my life and yours – so ask me anytime!
