Mark Almlie, elevate & Mosaic Pastor

photo of MarkSo you clicked on my bio eh?  Let’s start with a few humorous things shall we?  I wear buckle shoes.  Yes, it’s true.  They are big, black, and they have buckles.  Others have bought me new shoes, but my buckle shoes keep finding a way back into my life :)  I once rapped in church.  I have been in a ballet.  I used to have Bible verses etched in my hair in high school. :)

Favorite things: I love crab cakes, U2, baseball, Seinfeld, Erasmus (look him up!), Andrew Peterson, cathedrals, and travel (24 countries and counting!).

Why am I a pastor?  Good question.  Lord only knows. :)  Seriously, now, when I was 15 I was praying late at night in my friends car looking up through the sun roof.  It was a starry night in Calistoga.  I prayed this prayer, “Lord, please make me a professional baseball player.  I can bring you more glory doin’ I promise!  But, whatever you do with my life don’t make me a pastor!”  Within a week God had changed the desires of my heart, and I’ve never—not for one second—thought about doing anything other than being a pastor.  It is my heart, my joy, to serve at this church.

I did my undergrad at SSU and received my BA in history.  I then received my Master’s in Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena CA .  I also took a couple of classes at Oxford University .

Here’s one of my favorite quotes:
“The place where God calls you is the place where your deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet." - Frederick Buechner
