Dan Ferguson, Student Ministries Pastor

photo of DanI was born and raised in Northern California in a cool little community in the Sierra foothills called El Dorado Hills. I grew up in a wonderful Christian family where church was a central part of my life. In high school, at Redeemer Covenant Church in Orangevale, CA, my youth group was the center of my spiritual and social life. It was also in high school that I first started to hear God calling me into full-time vocational ministry, specifically student ministries.

My first college internship was in youth ministry at Redeemer Covenant. I attended Westmont (Go Warriors!) College, an incredible Christian liberal arts college in Santa Barbara, and graduated with a B.A. in Interpersonal Communication Studies in 1990. While at Westmont, I met my future wife, Ann Mary, who was also a Communication Studies major and was two years behind me in school. Ann Mary and I were married in 1991, at Montecito Covenant Church in Santa Barbara.

While waiting for Ann Mary to graduate, I worked as an Educational Sales Consultant for Apple Computer. We also attended Community Covenant Church in Goleta, CA and began a youth group program for the students there. After Ann Mary's graduation from Westmont, we moved back to Chicago so that I could attend North Park Theologial Seminary, the seminary for the Evangelical Covenant Church.  I started at North Park in the fall of 1992 and graduated 3 years later with a Masters of Divinity, specializing in student ministries. In Chicago, we attended Edgebrook Covenant Church and volunteered with the youth group, which led to an internship at Edgebrook Covenant my final year of seminary.

After Seminary we served for 4 ½ years in Rockford, IL at Broadway Covenant Church where I was the Associate Pastor of Christian Formation. While in Rockford, our first daughter, Joy, was born in 1996. I was Ordained to Word and Sacrament at the Covenant Annual Meeting in June of 1997. From Rockford, we moved to Countryside Covenant Church in McPherson, KS. There I served as the Pastor of Student Ministries for 6 ½ years. We really loved our time in McPherson. We appreciated the church and the wonderful mid-west lifestyle. While we were in McPherson our second daughter, Sarah, was born in 2002.

In May of 2005 we got an email from Scott Peterson here at Redwood asking us if we might want to consider coming back home to the land of “our people.”  We loved McPherson, but our years away from California and family were difficult. So, we moved back to California and to Santa Rosa in August of 2005.

I love student ministries and I love discipling the students here at RCC! We have really enjoyed living here in Santa Rosa and are excited to where God is going to be leading RCC and its student ministries in the next few years!
